Tarka Trail Horsebox
A cosy off-grid converted horse lorry with hot tub, fenced dog-safe garden and private access through the woods, close to the Tarka Trail and Bideford.
Price
From £89 per night off-peak | weekends and summer higher
Overview
Out in the countryside, disconnected from the bustle of city life, this is the horsebox that we used to go to shows all over the country.
Set in idyllic pet-friendly countryside with private access through the woods, yet only a short drive from Bideford or a cycle along the Tarka Trail. The horse lorry comfortably sleeps four, or six if you are adventurous.
The Space
The horsebox is situated in a field overlooking the Torridge estuary, just off the A388, next to the Tarka Trail with private all-weather access down a tree-lined lane. You will not need wellies for normal access, but if you want to explore the woodlands and the Tarka Trail after rain, they are recommended.
The horsebox has its own cooking facilities, proper shower and toilet facilities, central heating, and a compact off-grid feel without asking guests to rough it. In 2024 an off-grid hot tub was added, so you can enjoy the countryside with added bubbles.
Guest access, pets and children
Guests have the horsebox, hot tub, parking area and surrounding fenced space to themselves. The main guest area is enclosed with post-and-rail fencing backed by chain link, with double airlock-style gates and parking right next to the horsebox, so it works well for dogs and children.
The surrounding fields and woodlands are just a step away, and the goats and sheep may come right up to the guest fencing. It can sometimes feel as if the guests are the exhibit rather than the animals.
We do ask that dogs are kept off the furniture.
