Overview
A delightful 5m bell tent set in a private field beside woodland near Bideford, with a secure dog-friendly garden, friendly Valais sheep and Pygmy goats nearby, and easy access to the Tarka Trail.
Valais View is clean, warm, comfortable and full of character, in its own private outdoor space -- but it remains an intentionally rustic countryside stay rather than a modern lodge or hotel. Expect natural finishes, plenty of canvas, countryside sounds and smells, and the occasional countryside creature during warmer weather.
The Space
It is especially well suited to couples, dog owners and guests who enjoy glamping, animals and unusual places to stay -- but with a couple of extra camp beds for those who wish to bring children along for the adventure, and easy access to the coast and wider North Devon.
Guests have exclusive use of the whole enclosure -- around 150 square metres -- for the duration of their stay. The bell tent, fenced dog-safe garden, private hot shower and flushing toilet, outdoor seating and firepit/BBQ are all for your use only; there are no shared camping facilities.
The enclosure also has its own fresh-water tap and mains electricity supply, so you can fill bottles, wash up or power everyday devices without leaving your private space. Inside the tent there's fast Wi-Fi and a kitchenette with a fridge, kettle and induction hob.
There's also room within the enclosure to pitch your own additional small tent if you need a little more sleeping space.

Guest access, pets and children
Valais View has its own separate entrance through the woods, so you can come and go independently without passing through another guest's space -- up to two dogs are welcome.
The surrounding fields are home to our friendly Valais sheep and Pygmy goats, who may well come over to say hello. Children are welcome too, with two extra camp beds for the adventure.
We do ask that dogs are not left unattended, and that any mess in the garden is cleaned up before departure. We live on the property and are nearby if you need anything, but otherwise we'll leave you to enjoy Valais View in peace.

Shower and Toilet
We know portaloos have a reputation -- and most people's experience of them isn't great -- so we've done things rather differently here.
Both units have been completely stripped out and refitted from scratch. One is now a dedicated shower room with a proper hot, gas-powered shower; the other has a real flushing toilet and hand basin. They're clean, modern and pleasant to use, and quite different from what the outside might lead you to expect.
They are converted portable toilet units, and we'd rather be completely upfront about that than have you discover it when you arrive -- but we think you'll find they're a world away from what the word "portaloo" normally brings to mind.

Location
Landcross is 2 minutes' drive from the port town of Bideford, but it's much nicer to walk (30 minutes) or cycle (10 minutes) along the Tarka Trail, taking in the views and surroundings along the river.

Surroundings
Valais View sits on the edge of our paddock beside woodland, surrounded by open North Devon countryside. It is part of our small family-run site, but the other accommodation is set well away from the bell tent, so you have your own private corner of the property rather than feeling overlooked by other guests.
This is proper countryside, so you will hear animals. You may be woken by cows in the neighbouring fields, have your washing investigated -- or stolen -- by the goats if you leave it on the fence, and catch rabbits out of the corner of your eye as they sneak through the hedge. You may also spot deer, badgers, buzzards and, of course, our ravenous Pygmy goats during your stay.
The Tarka Trail is nearby for traffic-free walking and cycling, with Bideford, the River Torridge and the North Devon coast all within easy reach. There is plenty to see and do locally, and our Area Guide has more ideas for walks, beaches, places to visit, food and days out around North Devon.
So although Valais View feels disconnected from everyday life, you're not actually far from anywhere -- which is rather the point.

- A basket of wood is supplied for the fire pit; please leave it reasonably clean before departure
- Dogs must not be left unattended, and garden mess must be cleaned up before departure
- Exterior security cameras on property (monitoring the sheep and goats in the surrounding fields)
